Accident / Crash Reports

To obtain a Crash Report (CR-3) completed by an officer after a collision, please use the link below.

  • Peace officers have 10 days from date of crash to file their report with TxDOT.
 
  • Reports may take up to 14 days from the date of the report submission and approval to become available in the CRIS Crash system.

  • Reports can also be obtained in person at the Buda Police Department.

  • The State of Texas sets the fee at $6.00 per report, whether purchased online or in person.

  • Not every crash will generate a crash report. The state sets general guidelines on when a crash report should be generated.

Frequently Asked Questions

By law, Texas peace officers have up to 10 days from the crash date to file reports with TxDOT. You can check availability anytime using the “Crash Report” button at the top of this page.

Accident reports can be purchased online through the CRIS Crash system. Reports may also be requested in person at the police department for the state fee of $6. (The $6 fee applies whether purchased online or in person.)

Police narratives and full case reports are  released only after a case is closed, and must be requested through a formal Open Records Request. Use the online portal linked at the top of this page. By law, the department usually has 10 business days to respond. Requests involving body-worn camera footage or photographs may take longer if redactions are required.

Every call for service generates a dispatch log, and many also generate a case report. If you’re not sure which applies to your situation, call the main police department line with your case or incident number and we’ll confirm.

If you received a business card at the scene, the officer’s email address will be printed on it. You can contact them directly with questions. Please keep in mind our officers work rotating shifts and may not be available Monday–Friday. If you didn’t receive a card, call the main police department line and we’ll connect you.

If your case is under investigation, a detective or officer will contact you if more information is needed. You may also call the main police department line with your case number to ask about the current status.
